Chip Esten and Clare Bowen, who portray “Deacon Claybourne” and “Scarlett O’Connor” from the hit TV show “Nashville,” will join headlining artist Jennifer Nettles at Houston’s annual Southwest Airlines Freedom Over Texas, which will be from 4 – 10 p.m. on Friday, July 4, at the newly renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park along Buffalo Bayou.
“We are excited because all three of these talented Nashville-based artists have selected Houston as one of their first stops for their solo careers,” said Mayor Annise D. Parker.
“Nashville” premiered in October 2012 to critical acclaim and was nominated as “Favorite New TV Drama” at the People’s Choice Awards in both 2013 and 2014.
Esten has performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip as well as for former President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush. His additional television credits include recurring roles on “Big Love,” “Enlightened,” “The Office” and “ER.” His film credits include “Swing Vote,” “Thirteen Days,” “61*” and “The Postman.”
Bowen’s film credits include “Not Suitable for Children,” “The Clinic,” “10 Days to Die” and “Dead Man’s Burden.” Her appearance in Houston sets the stage for her debut solo album, currently in production with legendary songwriter and former “Nashville” executive music producer, T-Bone Burnett.
Apart from the series, Esten and Bowen have performed at the Grand Ole Opry at the historic Ryman Auditorium.
“Our continued partnership with the City of Houston to support Freedom Over Texas matches the mission of our more than 2,700 Houston-based employees who work every day to connect people to important moments in their lives,” said Linda Rutherford, Southwest Airlines vice president of communications and outreach. “We’ve been lighting up the sky over Houston for more than 40 years with amazing customer service, and we look forward to this year’s fireworks and fun!”
